Keeping children safe in education is a top priority for the DfE which has issued statutory guidance which must be read and followed by academies, independent schools, FE colleges and other educational bodies who should ensure that not only do all staff actually read the DfE guidance but that mechanisms are in place to assist staff to understand and discharge their role and responsibilities as set out in the guidance.
The issue of safeguarding is also extremely high on the Ofsted agenda and failure to properly address it can have a materially prejudicial effect on the conduct and outcome of an Ofsted inspection.
Our education team, which includes an academy governor, a former FE college governor and a charitable trustee, have the necessary first-hand knowledge and experience to:
- help you draft your safeguarding policy and otherwise comply with your safeguarding and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) obligations; and
- provide advice and assistance when safeguarding issues occur including in more complex cases such as FGM, forced marriage, child sexual exploitation and extremism.
