Theresa Carling

Theresa joined the firm in 2028, becoming head of the employment law team in 2025.

Specialising in employment law since 2001, Theresa qualified with a boutique commercial firm in Lancashire before joining a regional heavyweight practice.

Returning to Teesside she has specialised solely in employment law since qualifying in 2006 and has a broad range of clients across commercial, charitable and public sectors. She also has vast experience in dealing with senior-level departures. Her skills lie in carefully managing risk to allow her clients to make their preferred decision,  made possible through Theresa’s extensive knowledge of this area of law and pragmatic, down-to-earth advice. She thrives in finding the most practical and workable solutions to challenges.

Theresa advises clients on highly complex employment queries, termination of employment and litigation concerning all elements of employment law from advising on TUPE compliance and managing complex people issues to assisting employers with detailed holiday pay calculations. She also enjoys dealing with employment tribunals and has considerable success in this area.

Her experience includes multi-respondent claims with parallel High Court litigation, defending class actions, whistle-blowing and discrimination claims and dealing with unfair dismissal cases including constructive dismissal. She also provides corporate support on transactional work to our busy corporate team.

Theresa enjoys delivering bespoke training and presenting updates in a user-friendly and accessible style.
