Each year we select six university students or graduates to work with us for a week, giving them a chance to experience life in a modern commercial law firm and to gain valuable experience across our fee-earning departments. Hugo Adams joined us in December 2019 for a week’s work experience with our Commercial Property department. Here is what he had to say about his time working alongside the team at Endeavour.
Partaking in a week-long work experience program at the Endeavour Partnership was an incredibly eye-opening and beneficial experience for me.
During my time inside the firm’s property department, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and inclusive working environment that I found myself in. Whenever I came across various challenges with the work that I had been asked to do, I discovered that everyone, from trainees to partners, is very approachable and eager to help. Furthermore, throughout the week the work that I was being asked to do was meaningful.
During the short amount of time, I spent in the firm I was entrusted with a wide variety of different tasks from making enquiries with various local councils to drafting emails to clients to summarising active cases. It never felt like I had nothing to do, or that what I was doing was just to keep me busy. Although I spent the week in the firm’s property department, I also had a taste of employment and regulatory work. As a result of this work experience, I have learnt a plethora of different things about the legal profession, whilst also gaining invaluable insight.
On a personal point, it has confirmed my desire to be a solicitor. Additionally, I have acquired insight into the life of a property lawyer whilst also gaining a deeper understanding of the professional skills that all successful solicitors require.
Our work experience programme has proven a valuable starting point for many of our team who have gone on to secure training contracts and then been retained upon qualification.
