Stockton’s Castlegate Shopping Centre announces its support for One Great Day campaign, aiming to recruit 100 people to each walk 2.5 miles, the equivalent distance of Teesside to London.
The shopping centre aims to raise as much money as it can for Middlesbrough & Teesside Philanthropic Foundation and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
Karen Eve, General Manager of Castlegate Shopping Centre comments: “We hope Teessiders can put their best foot forward and take part in One Great Day.
“Walks can be taken anywhere and at any time during June and we are hoping that shoppers will help raise much needed funds which will be shared equally between the two charities.
“Over 50% of patients who attend Great Ormond Street are from outside London with children from the area receiving treatment at the hospital.
“Local charity Middlesbrough & Teesside Philanthropic Foundation work in the area helping connect businesses and individuals to improve lives and will donate their share of monies raised to a children’s health charity in the area” added Karen.
Tim Cornford, Asset Manager at Ellandi, owners of Castlegate added: “Hundreds of shopping centres across the UK are taking part in One Great Day in an effort to help children.
“We encourage individuals and businesses to get on board with this initiative and to help both Great Ormond Street and Middlesbrough & Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, of which Castlegate Shopping Centre is a patron, so that local people and communities can benefit” added Tim.
Andy Preston, Founder-Chairman of the Philanthropic Foundation, said: “We’re thrilled that Castlegate, as our loyal and generous patrons, are going out of their way to organise this fantastic fundraising event that promises to boost not only Great Ormond Street Hospital but children in most need right here on Teesside via their donation to our charity.”
Karen Eve adds: “To take part and dedicate steps, people can build-in a 2.5 mile walk during their usual exercise routine, whether walking the dog, or children to school, running or organising a special walk.
“The miles have to be undertaken during the month of June and pictures can be sent to us on social media using the #Tees2LondonWalk.”
