A leaflet providing guidance to the latest Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) schemes in England has been published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The guidance gives important information about the new Basic Payment Scheme (BPS), including details about eligibility criteria. In particular, guidance is aimed at new and young farmers, as up to 3% of the total BPS budget has been set aside for new and young farmers with more land than they are able to claim funding for. A further 2% has been reserved for young farmers who have taken control of their farm in the last five years.
Farming Minister George Eustice commented: “This latest leaflet contains key information for new and young farmers about new support they will be able to access at the point their career needs it the most.”
The leaflet was produced with collaboration from the Rural Payments, Agency (RPA), Natural England, the Forestry Commission and the Rural Development Team, as part of an overall strategy to improve farmers’ understanding of how and when to claim for CAP subsidies. The guidance is available online, and hard copies of the leaflet will be posted to farmers.
